Grace Reformed Church

Deacon Scott Parsons

I was born in Rapid City and grew up in New Underwood, SD where I married my best friend, Cindy in 1988. We have 3 adult children who are all married and we have 6 grandchildren whom we absolutely adore.

Cindy and I have had quite the spiritual journey. I was raised in a small town UCC church where though the teaching & doctrine wasn’t always the best but nevertheless the gospel was able to penetrate my soul.  Cindy was raised Roman Catholic but was compelled to find something else.

We were married in that little, small-town church and joined as members and we also baptized all 3 of our children there. The church later went non-denominational and we were exposed to Wesleyan, Baptist & Pentecostal teaching.  Our faith was growing but we weren’t content with the inconsistent teaching.

Through a business partner who had long been a founding member of Grace Reformed Church in Rapid City,  I began to be exposed to Reformed teaching. It was life changing.  He would share sermons on tape from Pastor David and also exposed me to Ligonier Ministries. I began reading & listening to RC Sproul regularly. This teaching changed my ways of thinking about the bible and church. By 2010 we weren’t happy nor were we being fed so we decided to check out some different churches. Our first church to visit was Grace Reformed Church and we never went anywhere else.

We joined as members in 2011. I now serve as a Deacon and help teach Adult Sunday School.  Cindy and I love our church family here and even since moving to Spearfish, SD in 2014 we still make the drive weekly.

Our youngest daughter and her family also worship here with us.
